When you’re looking to experience the French life, but you’re firmly planted in the US you can always head to New Orleans, as it’s touted as the most French city in America. To commemorate 300 years of friendship between the United States and France, the Bastille Day Fete is held each year in New Orleans.
 
Presented by the Alliance Française de La Nouvelle-Orléans and the French-American Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Consulate General of France in New Orleans, the event is now in its sixth year. The free Bastille Day Fete event happens on July 13 at the New Orleans Museum of Art from 6 pm to 9 pm.
 
There is much to see and do (and eat) at the festival. Local swing band Bon Bon Vivant will be on hand to keep the energy up. Executive Chef and Culinary Curator at Café NOMA and Napoleon House, Chris Montero will be in attendance to give a cooking demonstration to the crowd and pastry chef and author of Modern French Pastry, Cheryl Wakerhauser will be signing copies of her book. A traditional waiter race will also be part of the fun.
 
You can fully immerse yourself in French culture here without ever setting foot on an airplane. The museum will be offering guided tours so that you can soak up the refinement. There will also be pop-up shops throughout the space and food trucks available to satisfy your French food cravings. The kids are welcome at the festival too. There will be French themed stations set up so that they can take part in the excitement.
