Bayou Boogaloo Is Free Fun At Its Finest

What’s better than a non-stop party? A non-stop party that's free to attend, of course. Bayou Boogaloo is set to hit the city again on May 17 and the fun runs until May 19. If you’re new to the Boogaloo scene, you’re in for a treat; many attendees enjoy the festivities while floating along on boats or inflatables.

Bayou Boogaloo features a wide range of musical acts performing on two stages. Happening on the banks of Bayou St. John, this year’s Bayou Boogaloo will feature artists such as: Cowboy Mouth, Tab Benoit, Amanda Shaw, Raw Oyster Cult, Suspects Tribal Gold, and Omari Neville & Fuel… to name a few.

Foodies will be thrilled with the selection here too. While the 2019 food menus are yet to be announced, the offerings are always spectacular. Over 30 vendors will be in attendance and will offer up an enticing variety of local specialties. Some of the past vendors are Ajun Cajun, Boswell’s Jamaican Grill, Boucherie, Bratz Yall, Clesi’s, Felipes, Food Drunk, Mona’s Cafe, Nola Snow Snoballs, Tru Vietnamese Cafe.

With crowds in excess of 35,000, Bayou Boogaloo is the ideal place for artists and local vendors to showcase their creations. That’s why the event also features an art market and a marketplace. A total of 60 merchants will be in attendance, so there’s tons to see and buy here.

Those who are feeling competitive can take part in the Paddle Battle. Happening on May 19 at 8:30am, the race is open to all ages and has a number of different categories. The entry fee is $35 and you don’t even have to have your own boat to take part. Kayaks can be rented from kayakitiyat.com for only $10.

Friends of Bayou St. John are the organizers of this event each year. The organization supports stewardship, cultural appreciation, responsible recreation and initiatives that are accessible to all.
