Cultures Collide When Oktoberfest Returns To New Orleans

It’s once again time to break out the lederhosen—2018 NOLA Oktoberfest is coming October 5 and 6, 12 and 13, and 19 and 20. Happening on Bayou St. John across from City Park at 1700 Moss St., Oktoberfest is sure to be a raucous good time for all in attendance.

The Deutsches Haus is the perfect place to immerse yourself in German culture. For the foodies, there will be plenty of traditional cuisines to explore. Offerings will include schnitzel, brats, sauerkraut, meatloaf, pork loin, sauerbraten, Bavarian style pretzels, German cheeses, Bavarian nuts, and German desserts.

Of course, Oktoberfest isn’t Oktoberfest without beer. This year’s celebration will feature more than 20 different beers. For those who prefer something other than beer, there will also be over 9 wines available and more than 20 kinds of schnapps. The first keg tap of NOLA Oktoberfest takes place on October 5 at the Festival Opening.

To keep the event lively there will also be plenty of Oompah music, special dance performances, a beer stein holding contest, Dachshund races, chicken dancing, and lots more. For those who bring the kids along, there will also be a special kids’ activity area.

Oktoberfest runs every Friday and Saturday for three weekends in a row. On Fridays, the event will run from 4 pm to 11 pm. On Saturdays, the event runs from 1 pm to 11 pm. The event is open to everyone and is meant to introduce the German culture to the people of the Gulf Coast region. It also serves as a fundraiser for several local German groups.

If you’re planning on being part of the Oktoberfest festivities and are looking for accomodations in the New Orleans area, look no further than the Best Western Plus Westbank. We offer comfortable rooms and a laid-back setting. It’s the ideal spot to unwind after a busy day of celebration.
